The L.A. Project
TELLING THE REAL STORY OF THE STREETS
Launched in 2021, The L.A. Project is an umbrella organization for the various opportunities that Director Julia Dean offers to photographers and to the city of Los Angeles. This includes Street L.A., a street photography collective who shoots often on the streets of L.A.; several street and documentary photography classes for participants of every level; and PROJECTING L.A., a collaborative exhibit of work by 30+ photojournalists and street photographers showing stories of L.A. and its people.
The mission of PROJECTING L.A. is to collaborate with skilled photographers and to show the work in innovative ways. In 2022 and 2024, Projecting L.A. took place in a gigantic outdoor venue. The images, set to perfectly matched music, were projected 80 feet wide and three stories tall on the side of a building.
